A workforce reduction in December is expected at a St. Joseph County manufacturing plant.
WWMT TV reports IAC Mendon, LLC, intends to lay off 178 employees in early December, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification sent to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity.
The WARN notice, dated Oct. 8, is required by federal law when companies plan to make mass layoffs or closures. The plant was once Mendon’s largest employer, with a labor force of 600 workers at its peak.
It laid off 64 employees in June 2018, followed by another 83 seven years ago.
The Mendon plant provides vehicle components directly to automakers for full assembly.
