Suspect arrested following fatal crash

A White Pigeon man is a suspect in a two-vehicle, fatal crash last weekend in LaGrange County.

Deputies from the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched around 1:30 p.m. Saturday to a remote location in response to a crash with injuries.

Authorities said a vehicle driven by Juan Daniel Diaz Perez was going north on a rural route. As Perez attempted to pass a horse-drawn buggy – also traveling north – his vehicle struck a southbound pickup driven by 73-year-old James Eash of Shipshewana.

Eash was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the head-on crash.

Perez was arrested for operating while impaired causing death and no driver’s license, deputies said.
