Erica Jordan (Smith) Dettmar, age 25, of Vandalia, walked into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 9:44 a.m. Erica was born on May 4th, 2000 in Sturgis, the daughter of John & Rebecca (Huffman) Smith. Erica graduated from Constantine High School in 2019. On October 5th, 2025, she married the love of her life, Isaiah Dettmar in Marcellus.
Erica was loved by all who knew her. She lit up every room she walked into with her sweet gentle spirit and kind heart. She worked as a teacher at Country Kids Preschool & Daycare for seven years where she invested so much of herself into each and every child. She loved and cared for her babies with a depth of love usually only found in one’s mother. She holds a special place in the hearts of all her students. In her free time, Erica loved to go four-wheeling, watch fireworks, decorate, visit the zoo, and party plan. She enjoyed trips to Florida to visit her grandma (Virgina Stump), Gatorland, and Sea World. She loved celebrating the holidays and shopping at the store or online. She was very fond of sweets, especially Crumbl Cookies and ice cream. She loved animals, especially her adorable dog, Toby.
Left to treasure her memory are her husband Isaiah Dettmar, Vandalia; parents John & Rebecca Smith, Constantine, brother Aaron (Libny) Smith; Elkhart, and Grandmother Virginia Stump, Leesburg, Florida. As well as many other family and friends.
Erica’s celebration of life will be on Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 11am to 1pm at Eley Funeral Home in Constantine.
