George Herding, 72

George D. Herding, age 72, of Sturgis, passed away Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Sturgis Hospital Emergency Room.

He was born October 3, 1953 in Three Rivers, a son of the late George and Irene (Jones) Herding.

George was a lifelong resident of Sturgis and a proud graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1971. He continued his education at Glen Oaks Community College in Centreville.

On February 19, 1973, he married the love of his life, LuAnn Studeman, in White Pigeon. They shared over 46 wonderful years together before her passing on May 26, 2019.

George was a dedicated employee of Midwest Plastics & Engineering in Sturgis, where he worked for more than 40 years before retiring in 2019.

He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and playing golf—and he and LuAnn shared a special love for raising and showing horses together.

He is survived by his sister, Robbin Swinehart of Rockville, Indiana, and her children, Jennifer and Joe; brother-in-law, David (Lynn) Studeman of Atlanta, Georgia, and their daughters, Kacy and Kristin; and stepmother-in-law, Cora Studeman of Sturgis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Denette Harris.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 12th, at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of George D. Herding will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 13th, with the Rev. Rodger Moyer officiating. A graveside committal will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
