Joyleen M. (Snyder) VanDeventer, age 83, of Colon, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 22, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born January 17, 1942 in East Chicago, Indiana, a daughter of the late Glow E. and P. Lorraine (Dunk) Snyder. Joyleen had made her home in Colon since 1956 and was a proud graduate of Colon High School with the class of 1960. Before settling in Colon, her childhood and teen years took her to Washington, D.C., Winchester, Virginia, and Fremont, Ohio.
In 1965 she married Chuck VanDeventer. Although their marriage ended in divorce in 2013, Joy and Chuck owned and operated the C.L. VanDeventer Agency from 1976 to 2013.
Joyleen was a devoted and longtime member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sturgis, where she served faithfully on the Altar Guild and as part of St. Anne’s Guild. She was deeply involved in her community and was a life member and past president of the Burr Oak Garden Club, Burr Oak Mother’s Club, Order of Eastern Star Colon Chapter, and the MSU Herb Association.
She is survived by her daughter, Colleen VanDeventer Duric and her fiancé, Fred; grandsons, Aleksandar Duric and Nathan Duric; granddaughters, Paige Geibe Spiegla and Payton Douponce; her brother, Glow E. Snyder, Jr.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins across Pennsylvania, Arkansas, and Montana.
In honoring Joy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Friends may also visit one hour prior to the memorial service, which will begin at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 23, 2026, at the funeral home. Father David Evans will officiate. A continued time of fellowship and sharing of a meal will follow the service. Private interment of cremated remains will be held at Banta Cemetery in Leonidas Township at a later date.
