Marilyn J. Lukazcek, age 81, of Sturgis, and longtime former Colon resident, went to be with her Lord and Savior following her peaceful passing late Friday evening, October 31, 2025 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born July 23, 1944 in Sturgis, daughter of the late Donald and Esther (Huber) Baker.
Marilyn spent most of her life in the Colon area. On April 17, 2010, she married Lewis Lukazcek in Colon. He preceded her in death on May 14, 2025.
Marilyn was a hard-working and talented woman who held several positions over the years, including with Thurston Woods Village, Sturgis Bank & Trust (Colon branch), and as a bookkeeper for Stoll’s Standard Oil in Colon. She also operated her own seamstress business and worked at the Transogram Company in Sturgis.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Colon.
Marilyn was gifted in needlework and loved creating through sewing, quilting, embroidery, and crocheting. She also enjoyed crafts, sculpting, and doll making. A lover of the outdoors, she found joy in camping and riding her 4-wheeler. Marilyn had a lifelong fascination with trains and, above all, cherished time spent with her family.
She is survived by her children: Terri (Sam) Dougherty of East Leroy, Thomas (Velvet) Stoll of Colon, Tyler Stoll of Colon, and Jake (Judy) Finkey of Colon; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, with two more expected; sisters: Donna (Jim) Myers of Orland, Marge Sprowl of Marquette, and Judy Dixon of Bronson; sister-in-law Karole Baker of Bronson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers: Kenneth Baker, Chuck Baker, and Ed Baker.
In honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 5th at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. A memorial service celebrating the life of Marilyn J. Lukazcek will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 6th at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 484 S. Burr Oak Rd. in Colon. The Rev. Kurt Kuhlmann will officiate. Private burial of the remains will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
