County commission to vote on new road commission member

A Flowerfield Township woman is expected to be named to the St. Joseph County Road Commission Board.

During their monthly executive committee meeting Tuesday, St. Joseph County Board of Commission members agreed to offer the position to Rea Brown.

She was one of six people interviewed for the post, which is being vacated by longtime board member and current chairman Eric Shafer.

Brown’s appointment will likely be confirmed at next week’s board of commissioners meeting.

Her six-year term to the five-member road commission board would begin Jan. 1.

Meanwhile, Shafer will be recognized with a bit of fanfare at his final road commission board meeting. It starts at 5 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Centreville-based agency.
