Fabius Township Board members will be acting on a recommendation from its planning commission related to a proposed solar and battery storage project.
Fabius Township Planning Commission met Tuesday to review a special-land-use application, aimed at building a commercial solar array and Battery Energy Storage System on agricultural land designated as a Solar Overlay District within the township, according to WWMT.
Following comments from dozens of citizens opposed to the proposal, planning commission members voted unanimously to recommend the application for final approval. The commission said it had no options, citing state law constraints that limit local control over renewable energy projects.
The application was submitted by Three Lakes Solar LLC, a subsidiary of EDP Renewables.
If the project is approved, construction would likely begin in 2027, with completion as early as 2029, according to Three Lakes Solar officials.
