Harriet Mae Knight, age 93, of Sturgis, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, December 28, 2025, at the Ernestine M. Raclin House in Mishawaka.
She was born November 17, 1932 in Ravenna, Ohio, the daughter of the late Vincent and Lucille (Ringley) Ward. Harriet made Sturgis her home for the past 60 years, after moving from Ohio.
On January 14, 1967, she married Frederick P. Knight in LaGrange. Together they shared many meaningful years until his passing on March 3, 2004.
Harriet was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who found joy in caring for others. She and Fred were longtime members of the Jay Stacy String Band, a part of life that brought her much happiness. Harriet enjoyed sewing, cooking, canning, bird watching, and spending time outdoors, but above all, she treasured time spent with her family, creating memories that will be held close for generations.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Daniel King of Newport, New Jersey, Jeff (Renee) King of Lewisburg, Tennessee, Janet Penner of Sturgis, Thomas Knight of Ironwood, Wayne (Ildiko) Knight of Sturgis, and Donald (Sherry) Knight of Bridgeton, New Jersey; 26 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Ross, Jane Briner, and Gail Riley, all of Ohio; brother, Loyd “Bud” Ward of Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughters, Lois Ann Knight and Roxanne Walker; sons, Scott King, David King and David Knight; grandsons, Spencer King and Donald Knight; and great-granddaughter, Kaylee Knight.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa Street, Sturgis, where funeral services celebrating Harriet’s life will immediately follow at 1:00. The Rev. Rodger Moyer will officiate.
