Janice Hoffmaster, 76

Janice Hoffmaster age 76, of Mendon, passed away and went to heaven on December 19, 2025.  She was born on October 6, 1949 in Mishawaka, the daughter of Dean and Ruth (Price) Weaver.  The family moved to Mendon when Jan was a child, her father owning the “Tasty Freeze” and living next door in a mobile home.  She fondly remembered as a six-year-old making change and handing out ice cream cones at the window (her strength and entrepreneurship started here).

Jan graduated from Mendon High School in 1968 and stayed around Mendon her whole life other than a 1-year stint at Michigan State University. She was very active in Mendon sports as her kids were growing up, was a prominent member of the sports boosters, and owned the Fan Fair retail store along with her husband Bruce. Jan showed her love through cooking, she was the best. When microwave ovens first came on the scene, she was recruited by Williams Distributing out of Grand Rapids to teach microwave cooking classes both in home and at Glen Oaks Community College. In the early to mid 2000’s she thoroughly enjoyed selling Longaberger Baskets and was very good at it, winning several sales awards from the company. Jan also assisted in managing the Riverside Health Clinic for several years and retired as the bookkeeper for Riverside Church where she worked with some great people for 13 years.

Janice was an avid camper, this was her realm she and her husband traveled in their motorhome all over but enjoyed it most in the Grand Marais, MN (listening to Loons) and the Michigan Upper Peninsula regions. For years she spent a week (sometimes two) camping with “The Girls only” better known as the “Sorry Jan Camp” in South Haven where she, her daughter Angie and friends shared laughs, wine tasted and made many memories that will be talked about forever, a true highlight of her year.

On May 22, 1987, Jan married Bruce Hoffmaster in Las Vegas.  Combined they had 5 children; John, Angie, and Jeff Cupp and step sons Eric (Jen) and Jared (Beth) Hoffmaster. She leaves 9 grandchildren; Justin (Nichole) McClish, Austin (Taylor) McClish, Payton Cupp, Colin Cupp, Lizzy Hoffmaster, Hayden Hoffmaster, Lincoln Hoffmaster, London Hoffmaster, and Landon Hoffmaster, plus 4 great grandchildren; Makira and Malia (Justin and Nichole), Gavin and Layla (Austin and Taylor) She was preceded in death by her parents, and oldest son John.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, from 1 until 5p at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon.  Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, January 5, 2026 at Riverside Church in Three Rivers, with a lunch after and Pastor Paul Booko officiating.  Following the luncheon, burial will take place at Dutton Cemetery in Mendon. It is suggested that donations be made to The Birches AFC in Leonidas, MI.
