Catharine Weed, age 91, of Sturgis, passed away Monday evening, January 5, 2026, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born on September 8, 1934 in Memphis, Tennessee, the only child of the late Robert L. and Laura (Transou) Carpenter. Catharine spent her early years in Memphis and later resided in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, before moving to Sturgis in 2023.
On December 19, 1959, she married the love of her life, Lee H. Weed, Jr., in Memphis. They shared more than six decades together until his passing in February of 2023.
Catharine was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who took great pride in her family. She was employed as a stewardess with Pan American Airlines and later worked as a substitute teacher. For over 25 years, she volunteered in the gift shop at Southwest Missouri Hospital, generously giving her time to others.
She enjoyed crafting and was an avid bridge player. Catharine and Lee shared a passion for golf, playing many rounds at the Cape Girardeau Country Club and spending their winters in Pensacola, Florida, where they could enjoy the game year-round.
She is survived by her sons: Robert (Tina) Weed of Sturgis; Jonathan (Hiroko) Weed of Pueblo, Colorado; Adam Weed of Columbia, Missouri; and David Weed of Huntsville, Alabama; her grandchildren: Laura, Sarah, Catharine, Mayaya, and Amit; and her great-grandchildren: Skai, Antonio, Elle, and Conner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her granddaughter, Mary Weed.
In honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place. No public services are planned. Private entombment will take place at the Oak Lawn Cemetery Columbarium in Sturgis.
