Colon church collecting shoes

A Colon church is staging a shoe collection through the end of February.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church has placed bins outside its main entrance for anyone wishing to donate shoes or boots in any condition.

The fourth annual drive is in support of the Indiana-based organization Changing Footprints. St. Paul’s has accumulated more than 2,000 pairs of boots and shoes collectively in its previous drives, event organizers said.

The most-needed items are men’s work boots and children’s shoes.

Changing Footprints supplies donated footwear to veteran’s groups, job-placement efforts, hospitals, emergency-response teams and schools.

Previous collections have assisted children in Colon and Mendon as part of the work undertaken by Changing Footprints.

The church is located at 484 S. Colon Road. More information is available by phoning 432-3807.
