Debra Frances Johnson, age 67, of Mendon, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 12, 2026 after fighting a long illness. She was born in Sturgis on February 6, 1958 the daughter of Lloyd and Maxine (Williams) Hart. Debra attended Mendon High School and was part of the 1976 graduating class. On September 28, 1979 she married the love of her life, Johnny Johnson, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Colon.
Debra was known for many things. She was a Girl Scout Leader for 11 years, shaping the minds and creativity of young women in the community. Debra taught Sunday School and Bible School at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for 8 years, spreading the word and love that her Lord and Savior granted her with. She would often be seen at high school events, supporting her children while they performed in plays, sports, and band. She was a doodler, often writing, just to write (in purple pen of course, because everything had to be purple). Her win/lose ratio during family Wheel of Fortune is astounding, spotlighting a perfect record in her household. Debra loved 1970’s music, old classic movies, and Barbies (a collection unlike no other). She was known for many things, but she was best known for her love for her family. Being a foster parent to many, all the while providing love and care truly showed how large her heart was, for children and family. Debra loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. And yes, all the neighborhood stray kittens too, because they also knew where to go to be loved.
Debra is survived by her husband of 46 years, Johnny Johnson; three sons; Jake Johnson, Ryan Johnson, and Dillon Johnson; six daughters; Christina Johnson, Lydia Johnson, Danna Millar, Stevie Johnson (Kelvin Scott), Tyelar Nelson, and Avalyn Johnson; nine grandchildren; Justice Penn, Nina Millar, Nevaeh Johnson, Kaden Johnson, Alyssa Persing, Jordan Persing, Izaiah Erwin, Ronin Samson, and Elliott Shivley; three great-grandchilren; Piper, Payton, and Violet; brother; James (Shirel) Hart; brother in-law; Carl Johnson; and many extended families and friends. She was preceded in passing by her parents; Lloyd and Maxine Hart; daughter; Toshia Johnson; and grandson, Sebastian Edwards.
Visitation for Debra will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home (311 W Main St, Mendon, MI 49072) from 2 until 4 and from 6 until 8pm. Funeral services will take place on Friday, January 16, 2026 at the funeral home at 11am with Pastor Keith Kettwich officiating. Following the service, burial will be held at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon. It is suggested that donations be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
