Dennis Joe Barnett, age 67, of Sturgis, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. He was born in Sturgis on February 1, 1958 the son of Goble “Joe” and Willa (Lytle) Barnett. Dennis attended Sturgis High School and was part of the 1976 graduating class. During his high school days, he enjoyed playing baseball.
Dennis was employed at Mendon Community Schools for nearly 35 years, cleaning up after the messy kids, repairing fixtures and equipment, and tending to the ballfields. His radio would often be heard throughout the hallways, always listening to 107.7. Outside of work, Dennis enjoyed golfing at St. Joe Valley Golf Club, volunteering at the Eagles in Sturgis, ice fishing, and spending time with his friends and family.
Dennis is survived by his three children; Christy (Eric) Krull of Marcellus, Brandy (Dirk) Rood of Alaska, and Brandon Barnett of White Pigeon; two grandchildren; Abby and Brayden; two sisters; Vicky Hart and Ruby (Ron) Abbs; one sister-in-law; six nieces and one nephew; and life-long friend; Barb Barnett. He was preceded in passing by his parents; Joe and Willa Barnett; and his brother; Doug Barnett.
Visitation for Dennis will take place on Monday, February 2, 2026 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home (311 W Main St., Mendon, MI 49072) from 12noon to 2:00, with services beginning at 2:00. Following the funeral, burial will be held at Mendon Cemetery. It is suggested that donations be directed to Mendon Community Schools, to benefit the ballfields, gyms, and athletes of the school.
