Emily JoAnn (Leeds) Shearer, born August 4, 1953, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 1, 2026 at the age of 72. She was a woman whose hands were rarely still and whose heart was always full. A devoted member of her quilting, rug hooking, and spinning groups, she found joy and connection in creating beauty alongside others. She was an avid reader who loved nothing more than visiting the library, always eager for the next good book and the quiet comfort of its shelves.
Emily shared 54 wonderful years with her high school sweetheart and husband, Allen Shearer, a love that was steady, enduring, and deeply admired. She was a proud and loving mother to her two daughters, Andrea Prudden (Doug) and Michelle De Mattei, and a devoted grandmother to her five grandchildren; Grady Garlinger, Gracie Russell, Jet De Mattei, Halen De Mattei, and Baron De Mattei. Being a grandma was one of her greatest joys, and she rarely missed a sporting event, always cheering with pride and love.
Emily adored her two beloved dogs, Sophie Sue and Emma Lou, who brought her comfort and companionship. Known for always having her hair and nails done, she carried herself with grace and care, a reflection of the thoughtfulness she showed in every part of her life. She was a remarkably generous and intentional gift giver, always choosing something meaningful that made others feel truly seen.
Above all, she loved deeply and lived kindly. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and cared for. Her Sunday texts were a tradition, a simple but powerful reminder of her love, and she never ended a conversation without saying, “I love you more, more, more.” That love will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew her.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation is being conducted. An open house for Emily will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at the Three Rivers Eagles (715 E. Hoffman St., Three Rivers, MI 49093) from 2 until 6pm, with a Celebration of Life beginning at 2:30pm. It is suggested that donations made in Emily’s name be directed to the Vicksburg library.
