Samuel “PJ” Earl Brumfield, Jr., age 41, of Three Rivers, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at The Orchards in Three Rivers.
PJ was born on September 6, 1984 in Niles, Michigan, the son of Samuel Earl Brumfield, Sr. and Darinda (Reese Tolbert) Brumfield. He spent his early childhood in Cass County before moving to South Bend. Later, he made Three Rivers his home, where he attended Three Rivers High School.
An athletic and energetic young man, PJ was deeply involved in sports throughout his school years. He played football, wrestling, basketball, and track at Three Rivers High School, and also played football in Indiana at Edison and Adams schools. Sports were a passion for him and reflected his competitive spirit, discipline, and love of teamwork.
Above all else, PJ cherished his family. He was fiercely protective of his siblings and deeply devoted to those he loved. Family gatherings, laughter, and home-cooked meals were among his greatest joys. His family truly meant the world to him, and his love for them was evident in everything he did.
He is survived by his father: Samuel and Charlotte Brumfield, Sr. of Anderson, Indiana, and Mother: Darinda (Angelo Brown) Brumfield of Three Rivers; siblings, LaToya Reese of Indianapolis; Ericka Brumfield of Kalamazoo; Roger Brumfield of Three Rivers; Devan Brumfield of Constantine; Emanuel Reese of Bremen, Indiana, Yolanda Conner of South Bend; Georgia Green of Fresno, California, and Walter Litzbauer of Anderson, Indiana; nieces and nephews, Ty’Ja’Nea Oannia Broughton, Major Broughton, Jayla Brumfield, Chris Brumfield, Ty’Sa’Nae Broughton, Harmoney Brumfield, Levi Brumfield, Avi’annia Reese, Dion Brumfield, Denajia Brumfield, and Rhea Brumfield; and aunts and uncles, Vanita Reese, Joan Reese, John Reese, Darren Reese, Beverly Reese, Diane Reese, Wallace Brumfield, Shirley Dillon, Calvin Brumfield, and Douglas Brumfield. Great Uncle and Aunt Larry and Sharron Tolbert.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Virginia Reese and Wallace and Ruth Brumfield; his brother, Lamonte Brumfield; nephews, Antonio Manley, Waun Litzbauer, and Jason Reese; and uncles, Larry Brumfield, George Brumfield, and Michael Brumfield.
In accordance with PJ’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 31, 2026, 1:00 to 3:00 at Ray Funeral Services, 305 Rock River Road, Three Rivers, Michigan 49093.
