Michigan Department of Transportation is about to start a major project in Kalamazoo County in the area of I-94 and U.S. 131.
MDOT’s Nick Schirripa said work on an auxiliary lane on northbound 131, between I-94 and Stadium Drive, begins Monday.
In addition, the project involves widening ramps and other improvements at the 131/I-94 interchange, Schirripa said.
The $13.4 million project is expected to be completed in September.
Schirripa said an auxiliary lane is a temporary lane continuous typically between two consecutive interchanges connecting a highway on-ramp to the following off-ramp.
An open house to showcase details of the project will be held 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at MDOT’s Kalamazoo Transportation Service Center, 5372 S. 9th St.
