St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners last week addressed the merits of livestreaming their once-a-month meetings.
Commissioner Rick Shaffer said at the board’s Feb. 17 meeting he would like the county board’s Physical Resources Committee to take another look at the option of livestreaming. The issue was raised earlier in the meeting by Mendon resident Robin Burpee, who said more than half of the counties in the state livestream their meetings.
No direction was given following discussion on the matter, though it appears the concept could appear before the county’s Physical Resources Committee at a future meeting.
Commissioner’s last summer rejected an $18,500 bid from a Battle Creek-based company to provide the technology to air commission meetings. The matter was rejected, in part, because the money for such an expenditure was not allocated in the county’s 2025 budget.
