Delmar Shouse, 87

Delmar Charles Shouse, age 87, of Sturgis, passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 10, 2026, at the Orchards of Three Rivers.

He was born January 1, 1939 in Charleston, West Virginia, son of the late Charlie and Lillie (Morris) Shouse.

Delmar resided in Sturgis since 1963, coming from Walled Lake, Michigan, where he was a graduate of Walled Lake High School with the class of 1961.

On April 30, 1966, he married the love of his life, Ruby Alice Richardson, at the Gospel Lighthouse in Sturgis.

Delmar retired from Freeman Manufacturing Company following 29 years of dedicated employment. He also worked for four years at Kendrick’s Stationers in Sturgis, and for 10 years at Denton Mills in Centreville.

He was a proud member of the National Rifle Association and the St. Joseph County Conservation & Sportsman Club.

Delmar enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and genealogy. He was a skilled machinist who always seemed to have a project he was fiddling with and also had a deep love of music.

He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 59 years, Ruby; daughters: Sarah (David) Fischer of Jackson, Kentucky, Teresa (Christopher) Harter of Sturgis, Amanda (Thomas) Reed of Sturgis, and Rebecca Shouse of Sturgis; grandchildren: Cyndl, Myles, Michael, Delmar, Ashley, Celestyne, and Guinevere; great-grandchildren: Hayden, Dylan, Connor, Owen, Huxley, Liam, and Zaire; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, David Algarin; sister, Nettie Kinchsular; and brother, Woodrow Shouse.

In honoring Delmar’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Delmar Shouse was held from 2:00 to 4:00 on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa Street, Sturgis. Private family burial of the remains will take place at the family property in Jackson, Kentucky.
