Dorothy Jane Holmes, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the age of 89 in White Pigeon. Born on September 29, 1936 in Little Rock, Arkansas, Dorothy was a woman whose life was a testament to her selfless nature and unwavering love for the Lord.
Dorothy was a cherished matriarch whose love knew no bounds. She was the beating heart of her family, guiding them with her wisdom and enveloping them in her warmth. Her journey began as the daughter of Henry and Mary Collins and grew to include a loving husband, a brood of children, and a legacy of grandchildren that spanned generations.
Her life was shared with her devoted husband, James, who preceded her in death in 1999, her sisters Margaret, Mildred, and Mary Jean, her brother Ronald, her parents, Fletcher and Mary Griffin, mother-in-law Nora Holmes, her son-in-law Robert Omo, her granddaughter Terrah Omo, two of her children, Debra and Terry Holmes, and three cherished individuals she considered her own, Carol Holmes Schultz, William Holmes, and Buddy Holmes.
Dorothy’s memory will be forever cherished by her children, Carolyn Sue (Gary) Gray of White Pigeon, Theo Omo of Three Rivers, James (Joyce) Holmes Jr. of Mottville, and Kenneth (Lonnie) Holmes of Three Rivers and Jerry (Carol) Holmes of Constantine. Her legacy continues through her 14 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy and pride into her life. The family tree she leaves behind is a reflection of the love she sowed throughout her life, a love that will continue to flourish in her absence.
A woman of deep faith, Dorothy’s life was a living example of the virtues she held dear. She was a pillar of her community, sharing her love and kindness with everyone she encountered. Her selflessness was evident in the way she cared for her family and extended her hand to those in need. The words “faith-filled,” “loving,” and “selfless” only begin to scratch the surface of the remarkable woman that was Dorothy Jane Holmes.
Dorothy’s unwavering commitment to her family and her faith left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her laughter, her wise counsel, and her unconditional love are the treasures she bestowed upon us, and they will resonate with us forever.
As we bid farewell to Dorothy, we celebrate the extraordinary life she lived and the countless ways she enriched our lives. Her spirit will continue to guide us, and her memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration.
