City continues with restoration and cleanup efforts

Three Rivers Police Department first responders have shifted their efforts from search and rescue to restoration and cleanup.

Municipal leaders said the city’s compost site is open for dropping off tree limbs and brush. Meanwhile, the city has set up industrial-sized Dumpsters throughout town for the benefit of residents who are in need of a disposal option.

Dumpsters provided by Waste Management are in place at 308 S. Main St., Railroad Drive parking lot, HC Gleason and LC Beal Park on West Broadway Street, and Riverside Church.

Working with volunteers and other agencies, Three Rivers police, fire and DPW personnel are maintaining their support for storm victims – residential and commercial alike.

Meanwhile, police have reiterated that anyone wishing to volunteer needs to register through the St. Joseph County United Way.

Registered volunteers cleared through the agency will meet at 143 W. Michigan Ave., but must first call ahead to register. The United Way’s number is 467-9099.

Agency director Kelly Hostetler is the point-of-contact person for the volunteer-coordination effort. She said registering as a volunteer will expedite the effectiveness of volunteer work.
