St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office has announced details related to its annual Boater Safety Education Course for 2026.
The sessions are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 4 and April 18 at the Sheriff’s Office Training Center in Centreville. Potential participants need only attend and complete one of the sessions.
The course is free of charge but limited to 30 students per session. Registration is required and can be done through a link on the sheriff’s department web site.
Organizers said the course is designed to train knowledgeable, safe and responsible boaters.
Upon successful completion of the course and passing a written exam, students will receive their Boater Safety Certificate.
Anyone born after June 30, 1996 is required to obtain a boater-safety certificate to operate a motorized boat. Meanwhile, anyone born after Dec. 31, 1978, is required to obtain a certificate to operate a Personal Watercraft
