Glen Oaks Community College last week hosted its second annual “Day of Service.”
College employees and students broke into seven groups and offered their services to better St. Joseph County.
Glen Oaks President Bryan Newton started the benevolent gesture a year ago with the intent of it becoming a meaningful tradition rooted in service, collaboration and community engagement.
Projects ranged from preparing emergency shelter space to beautification efforts and facility improvements.
Recipients of the “Day of Service” were the St. Joseph County Fairgrounds; Covered Bridge Park; Rooted, a nonprofit organization focused on supporting foster children and families in St. Joseph County; Keystone Place; Affinity House, a clubhouse dedicated to helping adults living with mental illness build life skills, find employment and foster independence; St. Joseph County United Way; and St. Joseph County Commission on Aging’s Meals on Wheels.
