Edith Nan Large, age 84, of Sturgis, ran into the arms of her Savior on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born May 28, 1941 at Three Rivers Hospital, daughter of the late Dan T. and Betty Louise (Moore) Bickle.
Edith resided in Sturgis for 36 years after having previously lived in Centreville and Jones. On January 6, 1962, during a howling snowstorm, the warmth of her heart prevailed as she married the love of her life, Charles A. Large, at the Centreville Presbyterian Church. Only through death did they part on May 13, 2022.
Edith was a Licensed Practical Nurse and maintained her license until the age of 73. She retired from Dr. Trevor Neil’s podiatry office in Sturgis after many years of dedicated foot-centric service. Additionally, she dedicated many years and her heart to her beloved Bair Lake Bible Camp in Jones. During her working years and beyond, Edith devoted herself to caring for her family, adamantly making sure they could remain in the comfort of their own homes.
She was a loyal member of Brighton Chapel Church in Howe, Indiana, attending church services even when she was unable to attend in-person via video stream. She was recognized as the longest-tenured member of the TOPS program in the state of Michigan, sensibly losing over 210 pounds during her record-breaking run.
Edith had a deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors, her favorite pastime being to look out the many windows of her home to see what critters she could spot. She had a heart as tender as a kitten’s paws and raised a colony’s worth of outdoor and indoor cats over the years. She also loved horses and eagerly awaited spring foals each year. She cherished the time she spent surrounded by her family, her hostess spirit remaining strong even after her body weakened.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Gary) Wade of Jonesboro, Indiana; her son, Dale (Sue) Large of Racine, Wisconsin; granddaughters, Jennifer (David) Fox, Carolyn (Matt) Henderson, Preston Wade, Katelyn (Ryan Brooks) Large, and Meaghan Large; grandsons, Jeffrey (Megan) Wade and Alexander Charles Large; nine great-grandchildren, special found “daughter” Darla Stafford; brothers, Dennis (Karen) Bickle of Pinckney and Bob (Kay) Bickle of Centreville; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Eric Large; and her sister-in-law, Sally Large.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M. to 12:45 P.M. on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Brighton Chapel Church, 5415 IN-3, Howe, Indiana, where a memorial service celebrating Edith’s life will follow at 1:00 P.M. Pastor – Dr. Rustin Krapfl will officiate.
Memorial donations may be directed to Bair Lake Bible Camp, 12500 Prang Street, Jones, MI 49061, or Racine Christian School, 912 Virginia Street, Racine, WI 53405.
