Steven Wayne Parker, age 71, of Sparta, an avid hiker, embarked on an early morning heavenly hike with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather (Poppy) and great-grandfather whose life was marked by love, talent and an unwavering commitment to his faith.
Steve was a hard worker, starting his first job at age 12, at a local store in his hometown of Burr Oak. He later began his career in financial services in the banking sector and eventually became an independent financial advisor where he faithfully served his clients with integrity and care for 39 years.
He was a man of strong faith. In his five-year battle against ALS, he remained a remarkable example of acceptance, perseverance, gratitude and positivity. He truly fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire all who knew him.
He was also a talented drummer, playing in many bands, teaching others to play the drums and faithfully serving in the music ministry of his church. He was looking forward to making a joyful noise for the King of Kings.
Steve found great joy in the outdoors. He loved camping, sailing with friends, motorcycling and especially hiking – an enduring passion that led him to backpack in many parts of the country. He found peace in nature and took every opportunity to appreciate the beauty of God’s creation.
He cherished his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grands.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Virginia Parker; brothers-in-law, Jack Driftmyer, Dave Brooks, Gordon Rector; father-in-law, Delbert Rector.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 43 years, Carol Parker; children, Carrie (Todd) Longcore, David (Jessica) Parker, Chelsea (Kaleb) Snauko; five grandchildren, Taylor (Seth) Gilde, Alex (Emerson) Longcore, Ashley (Reed) Galer, Adelaide Snauko, Jakston Snauko; five great-grandchildren, William, Lennox, Evelyn, Jay, Magnolia, and one on the way; sisters, Linda (Jerry) Nelson, Susan Driftmyer, MaryLou (Donald) Richter; brother-in-law Brent (Page) Rector; sister-in-law, Debra Brooks; and mother-in-law, Anne Rector.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 15, at 10:30 am at West Cannon Baptist Church, 5760 Cannonsburg Road NE, Belmont, with Rev. Tim Anderson and Rev. Douglas Crawford officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 14 from 4 to 7 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont, and at the church one hour prior to the funeral service from 9:30-10:30 am.
You can watch the livestream of the service by visiting westcannon.org/live. Burial will take place at Plainfield Township Cemetery at a later date.
The family appreciates the care and comfort provided by Corewell Hospice. Steve’s care workers are a special breed of angels sent by God.
