Sturgis city manager resigns

After three years as Sturgis city manager, Andrew Kuk announced this week he is resigning.

The announcement came following a closed-session meeting Wednesday.

Kuk’s resignation will be effective July 24.

During Wednesday’s city commission meeting, Kuk said reasons for his resignation and separation are based on personal reflection and consideration of the goals of the commission.

He said the separation creates an opportunity to make needed changes and pursue other family priorities, such as a better work-life balance and health focus.

He also said Sturgis should have a city manager who shares the city commission’s vision and desired management style.

Kuk previously served nearly 15 years in roles as assistant city manager and assistant to the city manager. He started with the city as an intern while attending Western Michigan University.

The city commission will immediately begin the process of a search for a new city manager.
