Carol Jean Hines, age 88, passed peacefully on a beautiful Sunday morning, May 17, 2026, at the Orchards of Three Rivers (formerly Edgewood Health and Rehab), where she resided under loving care for three years.
Carol was born on November 13, 1937 at her family home, first born daughter to Isabelle and Glen Butler. She was a devoted big sister to her three siblings. Carol loved to share stories of her humble beginnings, of wintertime sleigh rides, simple Christmases, and walking in the deep snow to the one-room schoolhouse, which is now showcased in Vicksburg’s Historical Park.
She graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1956 and began a 35-year career at the Upjohn Company. In 1959, a handsome and persistent fella chased her around the roller rink and the rest is history. On June 26, 1959, at the altar of Carol’s lifelong West Mendon Church, Allen and Carol Hines began their married life together, which included raising two children, Patty and Dean.
Carol retired from the Upjohn Company in 1992, when she gained the new title of Grandma. She poured her life into her grandchildren with unconditional love and tender care.
Carol was preceded in passing by her husband Allen Hines; her parents Isabelle and Glen Butler; brother Gerald Butler; and brother-in-law Ron Fox.
Carol is survived by her two children; Patricia (Russ) Ahrens and Dean Hines; five grandchildren; Logan, Carson, and Olivia Ahrens, Aaron and Erica Hines; sister Darlene Fox and brother Ronald (Sharron) Butler.
Following Carol’s wishes, cremation is taking place, with a private graveside interment to be conducted at Fort Custer National Cemetery alongside her beloved husband of 51 years.
Memorials may be directed in Carol’s name to Tunnels to Towers or Gentiva Hospice Care.
