Flagman hit by car in Cass County

Poor visibility is a potential factor in a car-versus-pedestrian collision earlier this week in Cass County’s Ontwa Township.

Edwardsburg Police Department officials said officers were dispatched shortly before 2 p.m. Monday to the intersection of U.S. 12 and Adamsville Road in response to a personal-injury crash.

Investigators said construction crews were working on the side of the road, where flagmen were controlling traffic.

A vehicle driven by a 20-year-old man from Edwardsburg attempted to turn south onto Adamsville Road and struck a 41-year-old man from Augusta.

The male from Augusta was treated at the scene then transported to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities said the flagman was wearing a reflective safety vest.

The driver of the vehicle and a witness behind the at-fault driver stated the flagman was difficult to notice due to a heavy downpour at the time.
