Long-time SJCSD deputy honored

A long-time employee with St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department was honored last week.

During Tuesday’s St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners meeting, Sheriff Chad Spence was on hand to acknowledge corrections deputy Jeremy Tyler. Tyler retired at the end of shift May 15 following a 25- year career with the Centreville-based agency.

Tyler began his career as a corrections deputy and concluded as the department’s court security deputy.

During the ceremony, Spence presented Tyler with the department’s “Distinguished Service Award” in recognition of his years of service, professionalism and dedication to the community.

Throughout his career, Tyler earned the respect of fellow staff and citizens he served, and inmates he encountered through his fairness and professionalism, Spence said.

Tyler was also presented with the American flag flown on the day of his retirement, a commemorative shadow box containing his badge, name tag, sheriff’s office patch and agency logo, as well as his retired badge.
