Buggy crash suspect arraigned

The suspect in a vehicle-versus-buggy crash has been arraigned.

St. Joseph County court officials said 54-year-old Burr Oak resident David James Parshall was arraigned Monday before District Court Judge Jeff Middleton.

Bond is set at $15,000 cash or surety. A pre-exam conference is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. June 23.

The incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Friday on Maystead Road, near Needham Road, in Burr Oak Township.

Authorities said Parshall was driving a vehicle east on Maystead Road. It struck the rear of a horse-drawn buggy, which was also traveling east. All four occupants of the buggy were ejected, sheriff’s deputies said.

Three victims, a pregnant woman and two young children, were transported by helicopter to area hospitals.
