Sturgis approves investigation into some members

Sturgis municipal officials recently approved a resolution to direct an independent investigation into potential violations by some of its members.

Presented by commissioner Aaron Miller, the resolution seeks outside counsel against Miller, commissioners Jeff Mullins, Cathi Abbs, Rick Bir, mayor Frank Perez and former commissioner Linda Harrington.

Miller said the investigation centers on potential violations against specific parts of Michigan law. The vote occurred following a short closed-session discussion involving city attorney TJ Reed.

Meanwhile, in separate votes, the commission declined to pass a resolution to censure Perez, and a vote failed to remove Perez as mayor.

  1. State the parts of law. A Resolution requires statement of cause. Not general mumble jumble.
