UAW ratifies new agreement

After two weeks on strike, United Auto Workers Local 2093 and American Axle have reached a new agreement.

Union members voted Sunday to ratify the tentative agreement reached earlier in the week.

Local 2093 said the new deal will include an immediate $8 per hour increase to workers hired before June 2012. The union said this will bring the wages back to what they were making before taking a pay cut during the 2008 recession for legacy workers. American Axle also agreed to a pay scale of $30 per hour by 2030.

Union members also gained more paid days off and did not have to make any concessions to their current health care costs.

Ratification of the agreement has ended the strike and union workers returned to work Monday morning, according to union leaders.
