Norma B. Conrad, age 92, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away early Saturday morning, May 25, 2013, at her home.
She was born Oct. 2, 1920 in Sturgis, Mich. daughter of the late Carl and Gladys (Fillmore) King.
Norma resided most of her life in Sturgis and she was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1938.
She retired from Fiegel, Braham, Evans and McCullough Doctors Office following 30 years of dedicated employment and she also worked as a Laboratory and X-Ray Technician at the Sturgis Memorial Hospital.
Norma was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis and the Centreville Grange. She was a talented musician playing the accordion, mandolin, banjo and guitar. With her mother, aunt and uncle she was a member of the Rhythm Ramblers musical group that played throughout the local area and also in Nashville, Tennessee and radio stations WOWO, WKZO and WLS . Norma loved birds especially Blue Birds and time spent with her family.
The family would like to acknowledge their appreciation of the exceptional care Norma received from her caregivers: Cathy, Donna, Judy and Sheryl.
She is survived by two daughters: Linda (Jim) Gilhams of Sturgis and Carol (Larry) Wilson of Sturgis; four grandchildren: Cindy Bailey, Sue Milligan, Lance Wilson and Tracie Slingerland; four great grandchildren: Dr. Chris Milligan, Kathy Matz, Tiffany Watrous and Ryan DeJarnett; four great great grandchildren: Kortnie Matz, Andrew Matz, Remington Watrous and Keira DeJarnett; uncle: Carl Fillmore of Bradenton, Florida.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331 where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 P.M. Thursday. The Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Norma B. Conrad will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Father German Perez-Diaz will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the Mass at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
