Clarena Cook Muehlberger, age 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 9, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Muehlberger. She is survived by her children Robert (Esther) Muehlberger, Mary (John) Boonstra, Beth (Mark) Albert, Ellen (Gina Brandolino) Muehlberger; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren (and one on the way); sister, Joyce Moored; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Clare was born in Forest Grove, Michigan on December 27, 1932, to Henry and Nora Cook. In 1950, she graduated from Zeeland High School, after which she enrolled at Western Michigan University. Later, she attended Michigan State University and worked in the Graduate Admissions office there. While living in East Lansing, she met Robert (Bob) Muehlberger, whom she married in 1963. They moved to Three Rivers, Michigan in 1964, where she was a homemaker and raised their four children. In 1985, at the age of 52, Clare returned to WMU where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Geography – Urban and Regional Planning. Clare moved to Jenison, Michigan in 1997, where she attended Fair Haven Church; she enjoyed being a part of their Meals for Members ministry and the ladies Bible study.
Anyone who was familiar with Clare knew not to interrupt her during Jeopardy, which she would avidly watch and could hang with the best of contestants. Spending time at the family’s cottage on Fish Lake near Sturgis was special to Clare, but her greatest joy came from watching all of her grandchildren grow while cheering them on through all their accomplishments. She was so very proud of the wonderful adults they have become today. Clare will be missed by all who loved her.
A graveside service was held on Friday, August 14, 2020 at Forest Grove Cemetery in Jamestown, MI, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. prior to service. In honor of Clarena and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcares.com.
