Janice Diana Vaughn, age 83, of Sherwood, went peacefully home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 1, 2025.
She was born a daughter to the late Alfred and Wilma (Auten) Summey on November 9, 1941. She grew up and graduated from Sturgis High School.
On September 19, 1959, Janice married the love of her life, Billy Vaughn. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1998. Together they raised two children, though they were mentors to many more.
In her adult years she was employed by the Lamb Knit Co., Denton Mills, Colmer Co., and then eventually retired from Vanguard Industries after many years of employment. Along her path she impacted countless lives. After her retirement she continued to her impact on people’s lives by working with the St. Joseph County Courts Juvenile Division reaching out to many more. Along her journey the most important role in her life was her love, desire, and dedication to her lord and savior Jesus Christ. She extended that love by serving the New Beginnings Community Church in whatever capacity she could for over 25 years. This quiet, meek and humble woman was strong warrior for her church, family, and surrounding community.
Her legacy will live on through her children: daughter Kathi (Dave) Jones of Colon, and her son Billy (Joy) Vaughn of Sherwood. Her 8 grandchildren: Richard, Mindy, Robert, Debbie, Laurie, Jeffrey, Billy Jr. and Logan. 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren and her brother Jerry Summey.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill and siblings: Lois Simmons, Marge Collins, Dalton, and David Summey as well as great granddaughter Hope Marie Jones.
Her family will forever cherish her unfailing love and devotion to her family and especially her babies that she held so dear to her heart and brightened her final days.
The Vaughn family will receive friends and relatives for visitation / brunch on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the New Beginnings Community Church: 63022 M-66 Sturgis, Michigan 49091. A funeral service celebrating Janice’s life will begin immediately following the visitation at 1:00 PM with Pastor Randy Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Cemetery.
