Diane Free Mecklenburg, age 80, of Sturgis, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025.
She was born on August 23, 1945 in Sturgis, the daughter of the late Julius “Judy” and Evelyn (Free) Mecklenburg. Diane was a lifelong resident of Sturgis and a proud graduate of Sturgis High School with the Class of 1964.
For 39 years, Diane dedicated her career to the Sturgis Hospital Dietary Department, where her kindness and hard work touched many. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis, and was known for her love of animals, especially her beloved dogs.
She is survived by her brother, Gary (Erma) Mecklenburg of Sturgis; nieces and nephews, Kimberly Larimer of Mendon, Roland (Lori) Rowe of Sturgis, Cathy (Kim) Knapp of Sturgis, Michael (Patricia) Mecklenburg of St. Charles, Missouri, and Bryan (Kristin) Mecklenburg of Hudsonville; and her dearest friends of over 60 years, Karen and Jeff Owen of Sturgis. She will also be lovingly remembered by several great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Karen Rowe; her nephew, Mark Larimer; and an infant great-nephew, Jeffrey Mecklenburg.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service and burial of the remains will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 23rd, at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
