Dorothy Marie Beattie, age 98, of Sturgis, passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2025 at Thurston Woods Villa.
She was born Jan. 27, 1927 in Constantine, a daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Barger) Jacobs. Dorothy graduated from Three Rivers High School.
On June 6, 1948 in Three Rivers, she married Leoanrd (J.R.) Carl Beattie. He preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 2000.
Dorothy had worked alongside her husband, Leonard in retail, as they owned and operated a drug store, grocery store, and bowling alley before moving to Sturgis in November of 1964. They then opened the House of Cards & Gifts which they operated until 1980 when they retired.
She enjoyed and was very competitive in playing bridge and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
Surviving are one son: John Beattie of Boca Raton, FL; 2 grandsons: Chad (Kelley) Beattie and David (Ronit) Beattie both of Boca Raton, FL. 5 great-grandchildren: Lily, Jacob, Ava, Jack, and Ellie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law: Iris Beattie, a brother: Meryl Jacobs, and a sister: Eleanor Yoder.
According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025, at Riverside Cemetery in Three Rivers. Memorial donations may be directed to Heartland Hospice, 8075 Creekside Dr # 120, Portage, MI 49024, envelopes are available at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis who has been entrusted with the arrangements.
