Walmart tours local farm

Local Walmart leaders recently joined owners of Fresh Solution Farms for a farm tour aimed at showcasing the retailer’s investment in locally grown produce and the entrepreneurs behind it.

Area growers, business stakeholders and policymakers gathered to learn more about the role of local agriculture in strengthening communities across Michigan.

The event highlighted the contributions of White Pigeon Township-based Fresh Solution Farms, a Walmart supplier that provides fresh potatoes grown in Michigan. Established in 2009, Fresh Solution Farms is owned by five generations of farmers who recognized the need for a centrally located, year-round packing facility.

Since 2010, the company has been a supplier of fresh produce to Walmart stores, operating from its facility in White Pigeon, according to the announcement.

Fresh Solution Farms focuses on delivering fresh products with minimal food miles, ensuring lower transportation costs and fresher produce for customers throughout the Midwest, company officials said.

Area farms from which it secures potatoes include Walther Farms of Park Township.
