Terry R. Collins, age 71, of Parkville, passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 28, 1954 in Three Rivers, the son of David and Pearl (Buchner) Collins. Terry attended Three Rivers High School and was part of the 1973 graduating class. On August 16, 1975 Terry married “the prettiest girl in class” Janice Laverdure at Immaculate Conception in Three Rivers.
Terry had many hobbies, interests, and skills. In his younger years, he was an avid powerlifter, a skill he fine-tuned at the infamous Larkin’s Gym. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, water and snow skiing, and motorcycles. Watching the races was always something he looked forward to. He was proud of his butchering and farming days growing up. He was a “jack of all trades”, able to fix or create anything with his hands. He was a wonderful chef, making dishes for any event, whether it was for St. Edward Catholic Church, Mendon QB Club events, or a family cookout in the back yard; if there was great food, Terry was involved. For 35 years, Terry was employed at the St. Joseph County ISD and Pathfinder Educational Center, and volunteered his time for the Special Olympics. Terry enjoyed vacationing with his family and close friends, especially to Mackinac Island and Jamaica. He donated his time supporting Mendon High School, both as a fan and a parent; working concession stands, chaperoning senior trips, and supporting the Hornets in any event.
Terry and Jan opened their home to MANY of their children’s friends, and treated them as family. Close friends since high school, became family. Fellow parishioners at St. Edward, became family. Terry’s vast support group these past years, became family. Terry was a loving man, a giving man, and always wanted to help others in need. He cared for everyone as if they were his own family, whom he loved more than anything.
Terry is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Jan Collins; three children; Ryan Collins, Marisa Jo Collins, and Matt “Chooch” Collins; bonus daughter, Fernanda Carreno; bonus granddaughter, Graye Lukeman; sister Jerri (Mark) Foley; brother-in-law, Kevin Tavernier; sister-in-law and caregiver, Lisa “Gertie” Longacre; many nieces, nephews, close friends, and extended families. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Dave and Pearl Collins; and his sisters, Merry Jo and Sherri.
Visitation for Terry will take place on Friday, October 3, 2025 from 3 until 7pm at the Eickhoff Funeral Home (311 West Main Street, Mendon, MI 49072) with a rosary beginning at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 12pm, at St. Edward Catholic Church (332 West State Street, Mendon, MI 49072) with Msgr. Thomas Martin officiating. Following the mass, burial will take place at Mendon Cemetery. It is suggested that memorials and donations made in Terry’s name be directed to the Mendon QB Club or to the Pathfinder Educational Center.
