Central Dispatch reminds of upcoming millage-renewal request

St. Joseph County 911 Central Dispatch has issued a media release to remind registered voters about an impending millage-renewal request.

If approved, the agency’s request will lower its millage rate to an even nine-tenths of a mill. The current rate is 1 mill.

The millage to support Central Dispatch was last renewed in May 2018, the fourth consecutive successful request since voters originally approved funding for countywide 911 service in 1990.

County officials said the current mill generates more than $1.7 million annually.

The current millage expires at the end of the year. The renewal request will be for a five-year period, a change from what had previously been seven-year cycles.
