Suspicious death in Cass County

Cass County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a suspicious death at a residence in Newberg Township.

Sheriff Clint Roach said deputies were called to perform a welfare check at 8 a.m. Thursday in the 11000 block of Born Street.

After knocks on the door went unanswered, deputies looked inside the home and observed a man on the floor in the kitchen area.

Deputies attempted to enter but were stopped by several dogs. Cass County Animal Control was called and assisted with removing the dogs.

Roach said upon making entry into the residence, deputies discovered a female with injuries. She was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital. Deputies then determined the man on the kitchen floor was deceased.

Names are being withheld pending notification, Roach said.
