Robert Thewis, 68

Robert Daniel Thewis, age 68, of Colon, passed away at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital on Sunday, October 12, 2025.

Robert was born on June 20, 1957 in Chicago, the son of the late Albert and Johanna (Muiser) Thewis. He graduated from Thornwood High School in South Holland, Illinois with the class of 1975. In 1983, Robert moved from Hammond, Indiana, to Colon, where he had lived ever since.

Robert was truly a jack of all trades—skilled in everything he put his hands to. He had a deep love for animals, especially those in need. He often took in troubled and orphaned pets, providing them with care and compassion. Known for his kindness and honesty, Robert was a good neighbor and a loyal friend. He enjoyed house-sitting for friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his siblings: Maria (Richard) Josephitis of Minnesota, Albert (Barbara) Thewis Jr. of South Carolina, and Richard Thewis of Colon; a daughter in Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his infant sister, Christiana.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Schipper Funeral Home Ltd. A committal service will follow the next day, Saturday, October 25, at 11:00 at Burr Oak Cemetery.
