Betty Carol Carr, age 97, of Sturgis, passed away Monday evening, December 1, 2025, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born on September 3, 1928 in Elkhart, daughter of the late Claude C. and Esther D. (Dickman) Carr.
Betty had resided in Sturgis since 1967, with the past 17 years spent at Thurston Woods Village. Her early life was lived in White Pigeon, where she graduated from White Pigeon High School with the class of 1947.
She retired from the Transogram Company in Sturgis following many years of dedicated employment. She also worked as a babysitter, and for Russell Farms in Constantine.
Betty was a longtime active member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis, where she participated in several church circles and the prayer line, and was always eager to volunteer her time at luncheons, dinners, and rummage sales. She was a member of Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW Auxiliary and Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American Legion Auxiliary. Betty was always up for a game of cards.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Carr of Gambrills, Maryland; nephews: Donald Carr of White Pigeon, Eric (Linda) Carr of Sturgis, Daniel (Luellen) Carr of White Pigeon, Leland (Sherry) Carr of Nottawa, Eric Ott of Elkhart, Indiana, Sean (Peggy) Carr of Federalsburg, Maryland, Randy Carr of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Carl (Samantha) Carr of Fulton, Mike (Dyanna) Carr of Sturgis, Kevin Carr of White Pigeon, and Ron (Sally) Vallenga of White Pigeon; nieces: Amy (Skip) Snook of White Pigeon, Sherry Williams of Kalamazoo, Karen (Mike) Pozzi of Granger, Indiana, Karla Ott of Elkhart, Indiana, Theresa (Marvin) Gage of Centreville, Cynthia (David) Bir of Detroit, Jayne Kagabatang of Charlevoix, Sherry (David) Miller of Elkhart, Indiana, and Diane (Dave) Fenner of White Pigeon; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Harold, Lyle, Keith, Sherl, Cecil, Clifford, and Graham Carr; half-brother: LeRoy Ott; half-sister: Virginia (Carr) Quick; nieces: Joann Newcomb, Judith Ardine, and Marsha Forstner; and nephews: LeRoy Ott, Sherl Carr, Jr., Thomas Carr, James Carr, and Wayne Carr.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Thurston Woods Village and its staff for the loving care that Betty received over the many years.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 13th, at the First United Methodist Church, 200 Pleasant Ave. in Sturgis, where funeral services celebrating the life of Betty C. Carr will immediately follow at 11:00 A.M. The Rev. Sue Babb will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
