Lois Marie Rosenberg, age 89, died on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. She was born on March 12, 1936, the daughter of Charles and Julia Lane of Lombard, Illinois. Married in 1955 to C. Roy Dennison, she was widowed in 1959 with two sons, Curt and Christopher. Shortly afterward, Bob Litschewski, newly employed in the Dennison family business, introduced Lois to his friend Larry Rosenberg. Soon after the introduction, Lois and Larry were hitting it off, and from that moment, their story together began. Lois and Larry married on December 3, 1960, in Illinois. Life took them to Alto and Three Rivers before welcoming the birth of Brett and Victoria. Together, Lois and Larry operated funeral homes in Three Rivers, Centreville, and Constantine, before purchasing a home and building their business in Sturgis in 1973. Lois and Larry thrived among their many friends, filling their days with card games, dance-hall evenings, and gatherings that became the rhythm of their life together. Their social clubs kept them connected to friends near and far, and no matter where they traveled, they always found a place to dance.
Lois’s love for the arts began in her youth around Chicago where she was studying dance and ballet. She and her sister, Janet Peterson, were taking the ‘L’ to downtown Chicago for dance lessons at just nine and eleven years old. Her talent was recognized by a visiting examiner with the Royal Academy of Dance from London. Her passion for dance continued throughout her life as a dance instructor and choreographer for local and school productions. In later years, her compassion found a new outlet in local philanthropy. With close friend Diane Capman, she co-founded Pet Haven, rescuing and fostering nearly 200 animals each year and dedicating almost four decades to the organization’s mission. Lois received the Community Service Award, Citizen of the Year, and Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award, in 1991, 2002, and 2010, respectively. Family remained a focus for her. Lois was a constant presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren, encouraging and supporting them throughout their years in 4-H. She was always on the ringside at their horse shows and their most ardent supporter. As a gifted seamstress, she would help design and create impressive costumes for the equine 4-H costume classes.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, C. Roy Dennison; her sons, Curt and Christopher; and her brother, Glenn.
Lois is survived by her husband, Larry; daughter, Victoria; son, Brett; grandchildren, Justin, Annalissa, and Alaina; three great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Peterson; and many other extended family.
