A Sturgis landmark is closing for business by the end of the week.
WOOD-TV reports the Strand Theater, which has been a staple in the community for more than 60 years, is for sale.
It will close at the end of the day Wednesday.
Third-generation owner Eric Saitz did not elaborate on the decision to close. He said, however, that he hopes a new owner will step in and continue showing movies at the downtown site.
His grandparents took over the Strand in 1962. Historical documents confirm the theater was constructed in 1910.
Saitz said the main stage was later divided into two theaters, allowing the Strand to show current, first-rate films in a small-town market.
