Glen Oaks Community College has announced a Michigan native and former Major League Baseball player will be a part of the school’s “2026 Viking Speaker Series.”
Jim Abbott, a pitcher who played college baseball for four years at University Michigan, has committed to a 6:30 p.m. program March 3 at Firm Foundation Ministries in Centreville.
Born without a right hand, Abbott defied the odds and spent 10 seasons in the big leagues. His crowning moment was in September 1993, when he threw a no-hitter as a member of the New York Yankees.
According to event organizers, Abbott, in his post-playing days, is a motivational speaker who focuses on perseverance and resilience as inspiration.
The event is free of charge.
