Mary Ann Evans, age 78, of Portage, MI passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. She was born in Sturgis on May 16, 1947 the daughter of Keith and Lola Mae “Happy” Culp. She attended Mendon High School and was part of the 1965 graduating class. Following high school she attended Wright Beauty Academy in Battle Creek. On February 14, 1970 she married Roger Evans at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon.
Mary Ann had a gift of gab, turning into a social butterfly wherever she went. She loved going out to eat with her friends and family, turning a simple dinner plate into a night of excitement and laughter. Hallmark movies were a key ingredient, especially around the holiday season, while she decorated with her little knick-knacks. Her grandchildren had her sole attention, attending all the sporting events and cheering them on, just like she did with the Fighting Irish. South Haven was a place where she felt peace; simply walking the beach and listening to the waves as the sun set for the evening.
Mary Ann is survived by her three children; Scott (Nicole) Evans, Tracey Evans, and Tammy (Edward) Davidson; five grandchildren; Sydney Hale, Gabrielle Evans, Olivia Evans, Johnathan Davidson, and Brady Davidson; five siblings; Connie Culp, Lynn (Jeffrey) Zonyk, Ed (Virginia) Culp, Jeanine (Jeff) Zanella, and Kelly (Stephen) Culp-Zull; sister in law; Mary Culp; and many nieces, nephews, and extended families. She was preceded in passing by her parents; Keith and Happy Culp; her brother; “Skeeter” Culp; and her husband; Roger Evans.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11am Friday, January 23, 2026 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church (1150 W. Centre St., Portage, MI 49024) The funeral mass for Mary Ann will begin at 11am Friday at the church with Father Mark Vyverman officiating.
