Bronson receives grant for wastewater-treatment facility upgrade

The city of Bronson is to receive nearly $2 million in federal funding to help offset the cost of upgrading its wastewater-treatment facility.

Municipal officials said the investment will address infrastructure improvements at the facility, which has long been identified by the city council as a critical need. Mayor Bill Rinehart said the city would otherwise have been forced to find alternative ways to finance repairs.

U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg met with Bronson city leaders last week to discuss the funding. He noted that the process of securing the grant has taken about two years.

Walberg is authorized to support 15 infrastructure projects annually.

Also last week, he visited St. Joseph County Central Dispatch in advance of $1 million it is to receive for upgrades, county officials said.
