Man sentence for crash that killed Indiana man

A Bronson Township man will serve up to 15 years in prison for a 2025 crash that killed an Indiana resident last summer.

St. Joseph Circuit Court Judge Paul Stutesman last week issued the sentence to Todd Gilbert, 56, for the July 1 traffic-related death of James “Jimbo” Hansen.

Gilbert pleaded no contest to operating under the influence of alcohol causing death, and two counts of operating under the influence causing injury.

Investigators said Gilbert crashed his pickup at a high rate of speed into the back of Hansen’s golf cart in White Pigeon Township.

Hansen, a 61-year-old Elkhart County resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
