Wednesday was count day for Michigan schools

Wednesday was an important day for public schools in St. Joseph County and across the state.

Known as “Count Day,” Wednesday was the day when school attendance figures are tabulated, as mandated through the State School Aid Act.

An accurate attendance record on Count Days – the first of every school year is taken in October and the second in early February – is critical, as the amount distributed to districts by the state is $10,050 per pupil.

The per-pupil allocation is known in the industry as the foundation allowance.
